Who is a good candidate for this surgery?
Ladies who have noticed loss of shape in the breast over time, the breasts becoming droopier and loosing breast tissue in the upper part, nipples in a low position on the breast pointing downwards.
What can this surgery do for me?
Mastopexy is an operation designed to tighten the existing breast tissue and re-position the nipple in a better, more attractive position.
How is the surgery done?
The operation involves removing skin from the breast and re-positioning the breast tissue in a higher position on the chest wall. In mild cases this can be done with a scar that runs around the nipple in cases which are more severe an additional scar running down from the nipple down to the crease underneath the breast may be required and in the most severe cases the scar runs into the crease underneath the breast and then along the crease itself.
What kind of anaesthetic do I need?
This surgery requires a general anaesthetic.
How long am I in hospital?
Most cases of mastopexy can be done with an overnight stay in hospital. Occasionally with the most severe cases it may be necessary to stay in hospital for 48 hours.
What are the potential problems with this surgery?
The greatest problem with this surgery is the resulting scars on the breast. There may also be some loss of feeling in the nipple areola.
