Fat Injections
Who is a good candidate for this treatment?
Patients who have a thin upper lips and deep lines around the corner of the mouth.
What can this treatment do for me?
It will plump up the lips with a more permanent filler although the fat does not always take 100%. More than one treatment may be needed.
How is the treatment done?
Fat is taken from the inner thigh by liposuction and centrifuged. The fat cells are then injected into the areas which need plumping up.
What kind of anaesthetic do I need?
Local anaesthetic only.
How long am I in hospital?
The treatment is done as an out-patient.
How quickly will I recover?
Immediately although the lips will be swollen for ten days.
What are the potential problems with this treatment?
Infection is possible but uncommon. The treatment may not work. Not all patients retain the fat which can be absorbed and the treatment will need to be repeated. Lumps can sometimes be felt but these respond to massage. The face may be swollen for ten days to two weeks.
